Description
Suhr’s V63 set — formerly known as the ML Standard — grew out of hours spent with Michael Landau’s own vintage pickup stash, picking apart what made the truly great examples sound the way they do. Not every old single-coil is a gem, and Suhr didn’t try to average them out. Instead, John Suhr zeroed in on the standouts and built a modern pickup around their best traits: a full, present midrange, sparkling top end that never turns brittle, and low end that stays tight instead of flabby.
That combination makes the V63 set genuinely versatile. Dig in for a fat, singing lead and it holds up without getting muddy. Back off for rhythm work and the sparkle comes through clean and articulate. It’s the kind of set that adapts to how you play rather than pushing you toward one style.
Each pickup in the set is individually calibrated for its position — bridge, middle, and neck aren’t identical windings dropped into three slots. The middle pickup uses reverse winding and reverse polarity, so you get hum-cancelling in the classic in-between switch positions.
- DC Resistance: 6.9K ohms (bridge)
- DC Resistance: 6.4K ohms (neck and middle)
- Position-specific calibration for bridge, middle, and neck
- Reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup for hum cancellation
- Parchment covers
If you’ve been chasing that elusive vintage single-coil magic without the inconsistency that comes with actual vintage parts, the V63 set is built to get you there — reliably, every time.
