Description
Doug Aldrich needed pickups that could handle everything from thick rhythm riffing to soaring, sustained leads without losing clarity, so he and John Suhr built this matched set from the ground up. Both pickups share Suhr’s signature 4-conductor wiring for coil-splitting flexibility and Gibson-style 50mm spacing, and they’re voiced together so the transition between neck and bridge feels seamless rather than jarring.
The DA-N neck pickup is Suhr’s hottest neck humbucker, but hot doesn’t mean muddy here. At 9K DC resistance it holds onto string-to-string definition even under heavy gain, with warm mids, tight low end, and highs that sing rather than shriek. It’s equally at home laying down crunchy rhythm parts, coaxing out bluesy phrasing, or fueling fluid high-gain lead runs.
The DA-B bridge pickup ups the ante as Suhr’s highest output humbucker overall, yet it never collapses into flub even at extreme gain settings. Expect a big, focused tone with punchy mids and controlled lows, high-mids that cut cleanly through a dense mix, and treble that stays sweet instead of harsh. Whether you’re chugging through low-string metal riffs or bending strings in the upper register, this pickup keeps your picking dynamics intact.
