Description
Tom Anderson built his H series around one idea: humbuckers shouldn’t sound harsh when you push them into overdrive. A larger pole piece and reworked string spacing give every pickup in the line a genuinely uniform magnetic field, so you don’t get the classic dropout on the low or high strings that plagues a lot of humbucker designs. Each one also ships with 4-conductor shielded wire, so coil-splitting, series/parallel, or whatever wiring scheme you’re chasing is on the table from day one.
This set puts the H2+ in the bridge and the H1 in the neck — a pairing Tom Anderson himself favors for balancing a hot bridge tone against something more open underneath.
- The H2+ is Anderson Guitarworks’ most-ordered bridge pickup, full stop. It’s got more mid and low-end weight than the standard H2, with a smooth, rich character that stays composed under drive.
- H2+ dimensions: 2-3/4″ long, 1-3/8″ wide, 3/4″ deep, with pole spacing just under 2-1/8″ (low-E to high-E, measured at pole center) — roughly 53mm.
- The H1 leans vintage in output with an airy, open voice. Elliot Easton of The Cars ran one on “Tonight She Comes.” Tom likes it in the neck slot specifically to offset a scorching bridge pickup like the H2+.
- Across the whole H series, output ranges from mild to very hot, and the splitting performance is some of the best available anywhere.
Finished in black, this set is a straightforward way to get a genuinely versatile two-pickup guitar without second-guessing the pairing.
