Before noiseless single coils were a category, EMG built one. The HA dates back to 1974 as EMG’s first hum-cancelling single-coil design, packed into a humbucker-shaped housing so it drops into any humbucker route without routing work. Alnico magnets give it a warmer, rounder edge than a typical single coil, while the active circuitry stretches the frequency response wide open for glassy top-end clarity and a harmonically rich midrange.
It’s a pickup that rewards chord-heavy rhythm players who want each note in a voicing to stay distinct, and it holds up just as well under lead lines that call for single-coil snap without the 60-cycle buzz. Think of it as single-coil character with the noise floor of a humbucker.
