Description
When your 5-string Jazz Bass runs two long-shell pickups instead of the traditional short-neck/long-bridge pairing, you need a neck pickup engineered specifically for that position — not a bridge pickup pressed into service. The Bartolini 59CBJD-LN1 is exactly that: a purpose-built “long neck” unit from the Classic Bass (CB) series, sized to match long-shell bridge pickups while delivering neck-position tone.
Inside, dual in-line coils cancel hum the way good bass pickups should, while keeping the low end thick and the low-mids pushed forward — the kind of foundation that lets a 5-string’s B string actually growl instead of flop. The Classic Bass series is voiced with a wider, airier top end than you’d expect from a passive design, so you still get pick and finger detail cutting through the low-end weight. Epoxy potting keeps everything quiet — no microphonic squeal, no unwanted feedback creeping in at stage volume.
Before you order, check your bass: original J Bass pickups aren’t the same length front to back (neck is 3-5/8″, bridge is 3-3/4″), but many modern builds — and this one’s intended home — use two equal, long-shell pickups instead. If that’s your setup, this is the neck-position piece you want. Measure twice; a bridge pickup won’t do the job here.
