Description
The EMG-HB started life as the EMG-SS, built at Steinberger’s request for their headless basses. What they got was a P-Style pickup’s guts — same active circuitry, same output, same core tone as EMG’s standard P model — squeezed into a humbucker-sized shell more commonly seen on guitars. If you’re running a bass with a narrow string spacing (under 2 inches), the HB fits where a full-size P pickup won’t, without asking you to sacrifice any of that tight, aggressive low-end drive EMG’s P-style design is known for.
Worth noting: EMG has since moved production over to the 35 Extended Series Bass Pickups, which serve as the modern equivalent if you’re comparing current catalog options.
Like every active EMG, the HB is ready to wire in with minimal fuss — no separate preamp hunting required.
