Description
The Dual Sound is what happens when DiMarzio takes the legendary Super Distortion and gives it a second personality. Wire in a push-pull pot and you unlock series-parallel switching plus true single-coil splitting, turning one high-output humbucker into three distinct pickups. Full series mode delivers that classic thick, singing crunch, parallel mode cleans things up with a tighter, more articulate edge, and single-coil mode strips it down for spanky, chiming rhythm work alongside your neck or middle pickup.
This is the pickup that made 4-conductor wiring popular in the first place, and it’s found a natural home in H-S-H setups. Drop it in the bridge next to a middle single-coil like the True Velvet, split it to single-coil mode, and you get surprisingly convincing Strat-style tones — the Dual Sound’s inherent warmth and output keep it from sounding thin or unbalanced against a real single-coil neighbor.
Best suited to the bridge position in solid body guitars, though it works just as well in the neck or middle if you want extra output with switchable clarity.
