Description
The LiquiFire 7 is the neck-position half of John Petrucci’s signature DiMarzio pairing, born out of studio work on Dream Theater’s “Black Clouds & Silver Linings.” Petrucci has called it the best live and studio tone he’s landed on, and it’s easy to hear why once you plug it in: this is a pickup built to make extended techniques and legato lines feel effortless rather than muddy.
Crank your amp into heavy overdrive and the LiquiFire blooms into a fluid, vocal lead voice with sustain that keeps going well past where lesser neck humbuckers give up. Back the gain off for cleaner rhythm work and the same pickup snaps into focus, delivering chords that stay separated and articulate instead of collapsing into mush – a balancing act that’s harder to pull off than it sounds.
Under the hood, a ceramic magnet drives the tone with the kind of tight low end and forward midrange 7-string players need to keep the extra low B string from turning to sludge. Four-conductor wiring means you’re not locked into a single humbucker sound – split it for single-coil quack or run it in series/parallel depending on how your switching is set up.
- Wiring: 4 Conductor
- Magnet: Ceramic
- Output: 270 mV
- DC Resistance: 11.48 Kohm
- Finish: Black
Built for 7-string guitars and designed to pair with DiMarzio’s LiquiFire/Illuminator bridge combo, though it holds its own as a standalone neck upgrade for anyone chasing a smoother, more expressive lead tone.
