Description
The Rare Earth Single Coil is Fishman’s refinement of the pickup that helped define the soundhole category in the first place. The core idea hasn’t changed—neodymium magnets doing the work instead of traditional ceramic or alnico—but the voicing has been dialed in further, trading some of the original’s edge for a smoother, more even treble response without losing the snap that single coils are known for.
What you get is brightness and articulation with less harshness riding on top. The active electronics paired with the neodymium magnet structure keep string-to-string balance tight across the board, so no single note jumps out or gets buried when you’re digging in. The result reads as more acoustic-accurate than a lot of magnetic pickups manage, with clarity that holds up whether you’re fingerpicking or strumming hard.
Installation is genuinely plug-and-play—no routing, no permanent changes to your guitar. The pre-wired output jack can be mounted at the endpin, and the pickup itself uses a redesigned mounting system with a more ergonomic body shape than earlier Rare Earth models, so it sits in the soundhole cleanly. Power comes from a miniature battery tucked underneath the pickup housing (included in the box), and the preamp’s low-current design is efficient enough to stretch that battery out to roughly 300 hours of playing time before you need a replacement.
