Description
Born from two years of chasing a very specific sound for Steve Vai’s Ibanez JEMs, the Evolution set trades polite tones for something with real teeth. This is a matched neck/bridge pair, both F-spaced for guitars with trem routing, both ceramic-magnet, both wired 4-conductor for full coil-splitting flexibility, and both finished in white to match (or contrast) your build.
The DP158FW neck pickup is fat, punchy, and loud, giving you a thick foundation that still has enough clarity to cut through a dense mix rather than disappear into it. Rated at 294mV output with 13.04 kOhm DC resistance, it hits hard without turning to mush.
The DP159FW bridge pickup steps things up further: tighter, more aggressive, and louder than the neck, at 404mV output and 13.84 kOhm DC resistance. Both use DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance design, which pulls out more harmonic overtones than a standard humbucker, so single notes bloom and chords stay articulate even when you’re pushing a hot amp into overdrive.
These were built for the stage, but the same presence and definition that lets them slice through a live mix makes them just as effective in the studio. Fair warning: Evolution pickups reward players who already have technique and gain to spare. They’re not forgiving, and they’re not meant to be.
