Description
Can’t decide between single-coil growl and humbucker heft? The EMG MMTW settles the argument by giving you both in one housing. Built from the same triple-coil architecture as EMG’s 89 guitar pickup, the TW is really two pickups sharing a bobbin — a single-coil voice and a dual-coil voice — and both are fully noiseless, so you get the tone without the hum.
Under the hood you’ll find EMG’s proven ceramic magnet and steel-pole combo, tuned for a top end that stays clear and articulate rather than harsh, paired with low-end that hits with real authority. Like the EMG MM-CS, the TW uses wide-spaced bobbins (1 inch) and a generous coil surface area, which is a big part of why this pickup pulls so much bass tone out of the string. Flip to the single-coil side and you’re essentially playing EMG’s J Bass pickup — punchy and mid-forward. That makes the MMTW a great choice if you’re building a one-pickup bass and want it planted right in the sweet spot.
Switching between single and dual coil is handled by an included push-pull pot (usable as volume or tone), though you can swap that for a DPDT switch if you’d rather. Note: if you’re running two TW pickups in the same bass, skip the BT or BQ balance systems — each TW needs its own push/pull pot for coil switching, which leaves no room for the balance control. Want balance control anyway? Use DPDT toggle switches per pickup instead.
