Description
Most passive phase switches are a compromise — flip them on and you often trade tone for hum. The EMG PI2 sidesteps that entirely. Built as an active phase reversal circuit on a compact mini-toggle, it’s designed specifically for guitars running two or more EMG pickups, wired in series with one of them to flip its phase electronically rather than through a passive workaround.
Because the reversal happens actively, you get genuine “out of phase” character — that thinner, hollowed-out, cocked-wah-ish tone some players chase for specific leads or rhythm textures — while keeping the low-noise signal EMGs are built around. It’s a real functional upgrade, not just a novelty switch.
From an installation standpoint, the PI2 is about as painless as active mods get. It fits in the same footprint as a standard phase switch, so there’s no extra routing or panel work needed, and wiring it up requires just four solder connections. EMG includes the mounting hardware along with clear instructions so you’re not guessing at orientation or wiring order.
- Active phase reversal circuit on a mini-toggle switch
- For guitars with two or more EMG pickups
- Wired in series with one pickup for true out-of-phase tone
- Maintains EMG’s signature low-noise performance
- Fits standard phase-switch footprint, only 4 solder joints
- Includes output jack and battery clip set, plus mounting hardware and instructions
If your EMG-loaded guitar is missing that out-of-phase option, the PI2 is the clean, quiet way to add it.
