The EMG-S4 takes the classic rail-pickup layout — side-by-side coils under a solid cover cap — and refuses to overwind it the way most rail designs do. That restraint matters: instead of a compressed, dark tone, you get punchy midrange and beefier low-end paired with the crisp, articulate top end players expect from a traditional single coil. It’s a pickup built to cut through heavy rock rhythm tones without losing note definition.
Being part of EMG’s HZ passive line, the S4 uses a ceramic magnet and comes fully shielded to keep hum and stage noise to a minimum. Every HZ pickup, including this one, ships with EMG’s exclusive 5-wire Quik-Connect output, giving you the flexibility to wire it in whatever configuration your setup calls for — series, split, or otherwise — without soldering headaches. For players chasing even quieter performance, EMG recommends adding string grounding on top of the pickup’s built-in shielding.
