Description
This is Zakk Wylde’s signature weapon of choice: the EMG 81/85 humbucker set, now available gently used and ready to drop into your own Les Paul-style build. The pickups were installed in a Schecter guitar using EMG’s solderless system, so they’ve been played but not abused — and the solderless wiring kit that came in the box has never been opened, meaning you’re getting a fresh install harness alongside broken-in pickups. Original packaging and materials are included.
The EMG-85 anchors the neck position with dual Alnico-loaded coils and a wide aperture, delivering a round, meaty low end and a rounded top that never turns muddy. It’s the natural choice for rhythm and blues work where you want output without losing note definition — pair it with the 81 in the bridge and you’ve got Zakk’s exact formula.
The EMG-81 is the high-gain lead machine — a ceramic magnet with wide steel poles gives it a fast, aggressive attack and long, smooth sustain that holds up under heavy overdrive. It stays dead quiet even at punishing gain levels, which matters when you’re chasing that violin-like sustain on solos.
