Description
Some guitars just weren’t built with P-90 slots, and that’s usually where this pickup comes in. Kent Armstrong took the raw, edgy character of a true single-coil P-90 and packed it into a humbucker-footprint housing, so it drops into any cavity cut for a standard humbucker without a single pass of the router. If your guitar currently runs HBs but your ears want that snarly, woody P-90 growl, this is the shortcut.
Under the chrome cover you’re getting a genuine single-coil design with an Alnico 5 magnet (58mm L x 12.5mm W x 3mm T) and 8.5K Ohms of DC resistance—enough output to push into rock territory while keeping that open, articulate P-90 midrange intact. Pole spacing is standard E-to-E at 2 inches (50mm), and this version is wound/wired normal polarity.
Tone-wise, expect something fatter and more three-dimensional than a typical single coil. One player famously compared the sound to a baby grand piano—every note ringing out distinct and well-defined rather than smearing together. It’s versatile enough for blues, rock, jazz, or anything in between, and it’s the same pickup that comes stock in Stromberg Monterey guitars, which should tell you something about the quality bar it’s built to.
