Description
The Alumitone Bass Bar 4.0″ is Jeff Lace’s answer to bulky, noisy soap-bar pickups on 4, 5, and 6-string basses. Instead of stacks of heavy magnets and copper, it uses Lace’s Alumitone design to deliver a huge frequency window with absolutely zero hum — plug in and the silence alone tells you something’s different.
Because the coil structure is so much lighter than a conventional soap bar, swapping one in can shave off up to two pounds of dead weight from your bass, with no routing, no rewiring of the cavity shape, and no modification to the instrument required. It’s a straight drop-in for players chasing better balance on the strap without giving up low-end authority.
This 4.0″ size is built for four-string basses and slots into the same footprint as the soap bar it’s replacing. It’s designed as a current-driven, passive pickup, so it’s happy running straight to a passive volume/tone circuit. It also plays well with active preamps — thanks to its low resistance, it doesn’t just tolerate a preamp, it actually opens up more of the pickup’s sonic range when paired with one.
- Alumitone construction — zero hum, ultra-wide frequency response
- Fits standard 4.0″ soap-bar routing, no modification needed
- Can cut up to 2 lbs versus a conventional soap-bar pickup
- Passive, current-driven design that also enhances active preamp tone
- Chrome cover
