The Suhr ML Standard brings classic single-coil character into the modern era. Rather than chasing pure vintage replication, Suhr reworked the staggered pole piece layout so the magnetic field stays even across the strings – a detail that matters a lot more once you’re playing a flatter fretboard radius with today’s typical string gauges instead of a vintage-spec neck.
Tonally, the ML Standard sits in that sweet spot of tight low end, articulate mids, and a top-end that sparkles without turning brittle or harsh. Compared to the standard ML voicing, this Standard version is wound hotter, giving you extra output and sustain while holding onto the clarity that makes single coils worth using in the first place.
This particular unit is the middle position pickup, wired RW/RP (reverse-wound/reverse-polarity) – so when it’s blended with your neck or bridge pickup, you get that quacky, hum-cancelling in-between tone without any extra wiring gymnastics on your part. Finished in black with an Alnico V magnet and braided cloth hook-up wire for a period-correct feel and easy soldering.
