Description
The Thornbucker II bridge pickup takes Pete Thorn’s original design and pushes it further, chasing that elusive “hot PAF slammed into a cranked plexi” tone that fueled so much classic rock magic. Suhr reworked the coil wind with a few extra turns—up to 9k—and paired it with an Alnico II magnet instead of a stronger alloy. The result is a pickup that trades harsh edge for body: high notes bloom with warmth and openness rather than biting brittleness, so heavy gain stays musical instead of shrill.
This is the same pickup found in Pete’s Signature Standard HSS, now offered separately for anyone looking to drop that tone into their own bridge position. Expect the clarity and touch-sensitivity of the original Thornbucker, now with more punch and a fuller spectrum underneath—ideal if your rig leans British and cranked but you still want articulation on the top strings.
