Description
The Thornbucker II bridge pickup takes Pete Thorn’s original signature design and pushes it further, chasing that elusive “hot PAF into a cranked plexi” magic that defined so many classic 70s and 80s recordings. It’s the same pickup found in Pete’s Signature Standard HSS model, now available on its own for anyone chasing that tone.
Suhr took the familiar Thornbucker foundation and added a few extra turns of coil, bumping resistance up to roughly 9.1kΩ, then swapped in an Alnico II magnet in place of the original’s magnet type. That combination softens and rounds the top-end without sacrificing detail — high notes come through with real body and openness instead of harsh edge or ice-pick brightness. Plug into a saturated amp and you get warmth, sweetness, and punch that stays clear even as the gain climbs, with a full-spectrum low-mid presence that keeps the pickup from feeling thin or brittle.
Wound with plain enamel wire and finished in a raw nickel cover, this bridge unit is built to slot straight into your existing wiring without any surprises — just a more mature, complex voice than a stock humbucker typically delivers.
