Description
The Antiquity II Surfer isn’t chasing beach clichés — it’s chasing the real, worn-in chime of a well-loved ’60s Strat. Duncan’s aging process on the Alnico magnets and coil gives this pickup that broken-in, slightly compressed sparkle that makes blues turnarounds, West Side soul licks, jangly pop chords, and surf twang all sound like they were recorded decades ago through a tired tube amp that’s earned its scars.
This particular listing is the Custom Bridge version, built for the bridge position where you need a touch more push to cut through without losing that airy top end the Surfer is known for. It measures in hotter than a standard Antiquity II — 9.7K DC ohms and 4.08 henries of inductance, against 6.3K and 2.87 henries on the milder version, with a Q of 2.52. Expect punchier lows and a bit more grind on the front end while the highs stay sweet, not brittle.
Specs at a glance:
- Top pickup length/width: 2.642″ / .615″
- Bottom pickup length/width: 3.392″ / .908″
- Total pickup height: .582″, total magnet height: .705″
- Pickup cover: 2.750″ long, .700″ wide, .495″ high
- Winding direction: top going, magnet polarity: south
- Calibrated set, staggered & raised magnet pattern above flatwork
- Height adjustment: 6/32 oval head, Phillips screws
An RW/RP option exists for the middle position if you’re building out a full hum-canceling set, and the standard Antiquity II covers the neck. Drop this into the bridge and let your Strat sound like it’s been gigging since before you were born.
