Description
The SDS-1 wears a familiar single-coil shape, but don’t let looks fool you — under the cover it’s chasing the fat, dark growl of a vintage soapbar rather than classic Strat chime. DiMarzio built it for players whose bridge pickup sounds thin or brittle and can’t quite shove the amp into overdrive the way they want.
- Ceramic magnet delivers punch and gain without the harsh top end typical of alnico single coils
- Adjustable pole pieces use less magnetic pull than standard rod magnets, so you can raise the pickup closer to the strings for extra output without choking sustain
- Rounder, darker voice with a deeper low end and softened highs compared to most single coils
- 200mV output and 9.36k DC resistance for solid presence without going full hot-rod
- 2-conductor wiring for straightforward, no-fuss installation
It’s a smart swap for a bridge position that’s too edgy on its own, giving you the growl to drive your amp harder. Pair it with a True Velvet in the neck for shimmering cleans, or run True Velvets throughout for sparkle — or set an FS-1 in the middle alongside a True Velvet neck for a well-rounded three-pickup lineup.
