Description
DiMarzio built the DLX Plus for players who liked the idea of a soapbar but wanted more grunt under the hood. Rather than just cloning the old soapbar voice, they dialed back the midrange slightly, tightened up the low end, and pushed the highs forward so the pickup stays articulate even when you’re pushing gain. Crank the amp’s mids and you get a fat, punchy tone that never turns into mud – definition survives the power increase, which is the whole point of this design.
The ceramic magnet gives it that strong, present output (400mV) paired with a DC resistance of 17.28 Kohm, landing it firmly in modern humbucker territory rather than soapbar-vintage. If you’re running the Neck version alongside the Bridge, know that DiMarzio kept the Neck’s output nearly as hot as the Bridge’s, just with a leaner bass response so lower notes don’t turn to soup – a smart move for maintaining note clarity across the neck position.
Both Neck and Bridge models ship with 4-conductor wiring, opening the door to coil-splitting and parallel wiring if you want to unlock alternate tonal options beyond the standard humbucker sound.
