Description
Getting a single-coil to sound clean and bright is easy. Getting it to stay musical on the wound strings past the twelfth fret is the hard part. DiMarzio built the True Velvet bridge model specifically to solve that problem, tuning the coil’s frequency response to land in a zone that reads as bright and articulate rather than thin or icy.
A stagger-height magnet pattern is dialed in for balance across the strings, so full chords ring out evenly instead of favoring one or two strings. This bridge version runs slightly hotter and warmer than its neck and middle counterparts, which means switching between positions feels natural rather than jarring — no jump in output or tonal character to adjust to.
The True Velvet is DiMarzio’s refinement of the earlier Blue Velvet design, with the frequency curve retuned to zero in on that classic vintage single-coil ‘sweet spot’ — present and bright without ever getting harsh. That range makes it equally at home under crisp country picking or grittier Texas blues phrasing.
