Description
The Ellipse Matrix Blend is Fishman’s answer for players who want mic character without cutting a single new hole in their guitar. It pairs the Acoustic Matrix – the undersaddle pickup that basically became the industry default – with a small cardioid condenser mic on a flexible gooseneck, both feeding into a low-noise onboard preamp mounted right at the soundhole.
Because the controls sit at the edge of the soundhole instead of on the side of the guitar, you can reach volume, blend, phase, and mic trim without breaking your playing position or fumbling around the lower bout. The blend control lets you dial between the Matrix’s crisp, direct pickup signal and the mic’s more open, room-influenced tone, so you’re not locked into one flavor. A phase switch is on hand for taming feedback at stage volume, and there’s a switchable low-frequency shaping option built into the preamp for cleaning up boom on bigger-bodied guitars.
Installation leans on a patent-pending neodymium magnetic mount, meaning everything clips in without solder. This narrow-format Acoustic Matrix measures 3/32″ (2.3mm) wide and comes in the standard 2.65″ (67.3mm) length, suited to guitars with roughly 2.5″ string spacing. The soundhole unit fits most round soundholes between 3-7/8″ and 4-1/8″ across. Runs on a single 9-volt battery rated for about 220 hours.
Professional installation is recommended to get placement and mic angle dialed in properly.
