Description
Forget everything you know about acoustic pickups for a second, because the Lyric Classical isn’t one. It’s a genuine miniature microphone, adhesive-mounted to the underside of your bridge plate, capturing your nylon-string guitar the way a good engineer would in a studio—except it travels with the instrument and won’t howl the moment you hit stage volume.
L.R. Baggs built this around their TRU•MIC technology, positioning the tiny capsule just 3mm from the soundboard’s surface using pressure-zone placement. That proximity does double duty: it hears the entire top for balanced, even tone, and it allows serious gain before feedback becomes an issue. The real trick is the noise-canceling circuitry tucked inside, which filters out the boxy internal-chamber reflections that plague most under-the-hood microphones—so instead of sounding trapped inside your guitar, it sounds like it’s listening from the outside.
Lead engineer Tommy Linn packed a handful of patent-pending circuit tricks onto the tiny board, tightening low-end response for punchier attack while preserving natural dynamics and keeping the mic’s sweetness intact even when you dig in. A presence control lets you dial in high-frequency response to match your specific instrument, and it all runs through an all-discrete, high-fidelity mic preamp built specifically for the demands of nylon strings.
The result is a system that delivers much of what you’d get from mic’ing your guitar from the outside—natural harmonic content, open dynamics—while being isolated and feedback-resistant enough to actually survive a stage.
