Description
The story behind this pickup is almost as good as the tone: back in 1978, a player handed Seymour Duncan a stock P.A.F. and asked for a rewind that would make artificial and natural harmonics jump out with more sensitivity and sustain. Duncan answered with his signature hot wind, pushed a bit further — and the ’78 Model was born.
Built around an Alnico 2 magnet and wound to those same hot specs from the original custom job, it lands in that sweet spot between vintage warmth and modern push. Rhythm tones come out thick and slightly gnarly rather than tight and compressed, while leads have that biting, harmonically rich edge that makes tapped notes and pinch harmonics ring out clearly instead of getting buried.
This is the Trembucker version in Zebra, built with the wider pole spacing that lines up correctly with guitars routed for trem-equipped bridges.
- Alnico 2 magnet for warm, slightly compressed vintage character
- Hot wind for increased output and harmonic sensitivity
- Zebra bobbin finish
- Trembucker spacing for wider pole-to-pole string alignment
If your playing leans on whammy bar dive bombs, tapped licks, and articulate pick attack alongside a good hard-rock crunch, the ’78 Model was quite literally designed for exactly that.
