Description
The SH-1n is Seymour Duncan’s answer to the question every vintage-obsessed player eventually asks: what did a real 1959 PAF actually sound like? Built to Seth Lover’s original “Patent Applied For” spec, this neck humbucker uses the same alnico magnets, plain enamel wire, nickel-plated pole studs, a wooden bobbin spacer, and black paper coil tape that defined the breed decades ago. Even the coil balance mirrors the original construction rather than chasing modern output numbers.
- Position: Neck
- Finish: Gold cover
- Wiring: 4-conductor lead for series, parallel, split, or phase options
- Magnet: Alnico
- Construction: Plain enamel windings, nickel-plated studs, wooden spacer, black paper tape
Sonically, expect the classic PAF signature — a warm, rounded voice with smooth top end, generous sustain, and bass that fills in without turning muddy. It’s the kind of neck tone that sits perfectly under clean jazz chords or breaks up gracefully into a singing lead, all without stepping on the rest of your rig.
Because it’s wired with four conductors, you get full control over how the coils interact, letting you dial in everything from full humbucker warmth to a brighter split-coil voice. Mounting screws and a wiring diagram are included, so installation is straightforward for anyone comfortable with a soldering iron.
