Description
The SH-5 Custom is what happens when you take the classic Patent Applied For blueprint and put it through weight training. Seymour Duncan built this one for guitarists who need more push than a vintage-style pickup can offer, without sacrificing the harmonic complexity that makes a humbucker feel alive under your fingers.
- Ceramic magnet paired with a custom coil design for compressed dynamics and a punchy low end
- Distinctive high-end and midrange attack that cuts through dense mixes
- Handles dropped tunings cleanly, staying tight instead of turning to mush
- Four-conductor hookup cable included for flexible wiring options (series, split, parallel, out-of-phase)
- Finished in a Duncan Custom gold cover
It’s voiced and recommended for the bridge position, where its added grind and sustain can really do work — think classic rock, heavy rock, funk, punk, R&B, and metal. A popular move is pairing it with an SH-1 ’59 in the neck: you get bigger, beefed-up P.A.F. character in the bridge and vintage-correct P.A.F. warmth up top, giving the instrument a balanced, well-rounded voice overall.
Guitars with rosewood fingerboards tend to be an especially good match, since the fretboard’s inherent warmth helps offset the pickup’s aggressive top end. If your rig calls for a bridge pickup that can go from articulate crunch to full-on saturation without losing its shape, the SH-5 is built for that job.
