Description

The 85X takes the classic EMG active formula and opens it up, trading some of that ultra-tight compression for extra headroom and a rounder, more natural voice. Close aperture coils wound around Alnico V magnets give you a warm, vocal growl and lush lead sustain, while a newly designed preamp keeps the low end tight and the top end articulate no matter how hard you dig in.

It’s a genuinely versatile pickup – equally at home coaxing soulful blues bends as it is tracking aggressive, high-gain riffing. Drop it in the bridge position for a smooth, saturated lead tone with real character, and don’t be afraid to mix it with other pickups from EMG’s active lineup, since the 85X pairs cleanly with nearly all of them.
