Description
This set pairs two of DiMarzio’s most flexible humbuckers into a matched neck/bridge combo, with a set of D’Addario EXL110 Regular Light strings thrown in so you’re ready to plug in and go.
PAF Pro (DP151) — Neck
Designed back in 1986 as chops and high-gain rigs were taking over, the PAF Pro keeps an open, vintage PAF character but adds enough presence and cut to stay articulate through heavy processing — where muddier pickups tend to disappear. Lows have snap and chunk, there’s a mid-range spike that gives it a subtle wah-parked-halfway vowel quality, and the highs are dialed to stand out without turning brittle. Alnico 5 magnet, 4-conductor wiring, 300mV output, 8.4 kOhm DC resistance. Works well in either position, but especially shines in the neck, or as a bridge pickup when you don’t need maximum output.
Norton (DP160FBK) — Bridge, F-Spaced
The Norton sits tonally between FRED and The Tone Zone, borrowing FRED’s slightly nasty harmonic bite and adding some of the Tone Zone’s mid-range muscle and power. It uses the same patented dual-resonance design as those two, landing hotter and bigger-sounding than a vintage-output pickup, but short of full distortion-class output — making it one of DiMarzio’s most versatile bridge options. F-spaced for correct pole alignment under wide-spaced bridges. Alnico 5 magnet, 4-conductor wiring, 352mV output, 12.62 kOhm DC resistance.
