Description
DiMarzio built the Air Norton as the Airbucker take on the Norton, expecting it to shine as a high-gain bridge pickup. Instead it turned out to be an unusually expressive neck humbucker: deep and warm without turning to mud, hot without collapsing into distortion, and full of harmonic detail that’s rare for a neck-position bucker. The patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts down on string pull, which frees up sustain and gives your pick attack a lot more room to breathe. In the neck slot it stays open and articulate—try 500K pots if you want extra treble and harmonic snap.
Its bridge-position partner, the Norton, sits tonally between FRED and The Tone Zone, borrowing FRED’s snarly harmonic edge and Tone Zone’s mid-range weight. That same dual-resonance design pushes output hotter and bigger than a vintage-style pickup while stopping well short of full distortion territory—arguably DiMarzio’s most versatile bridge humbucker, equally happy next to an Air Classic, PAF 36th Anniversary, PAF Pro, or its own neck sibling here.
Suited to solid body and semi-hollow guitars, this black-finished, 4-conductor set drops right into most standard humbucker routes.
