Description
DiMarzio’s Air Norton was originally meant as just an “airbucker” take on the Norton, but it turned out to be one of those pickups that’s better in the position nobody expected. Here it’s doing neck duty in this Black/Creme set (DP193BC), delivering deep, warm tone that stays articulate instead of turning to mud, with surprising harmonic content for a neck humbucker. The patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts string pull, so you get longer sustain and a pick attack that actually responds to how hard you dig in.
Paired with it is the F-spaced Tone Zone (DP155FBC) in the bridge, DiMarzio’s answer to bridge pickups that turn into shrill, buzzing mosquitoes under gain. The Tone Zone runs hot enough to call high-output, but its dynamic range means light picking stays clean and quiet while digging in unleashes real power. Bass and low-mids are reinforced without losing top-end clarity, so single notes keep their depth and chords sound massive. Patented dual-resonance coils pull more overtones out of the pickup than you’d expect from something this fat, and it cleans up nicely in split-coil mode too.
Built for solid body and semi-hollow guitars, this combination gives you a balanced, expressive setup: warm and open on the neck, punchy and harmonically alive on the bridge. Try 500K pots on the Air Norton for extra treble sparkle, and experiment with 250K or a 500K/250K mix on the Tone Zone to tame or fatten the highs.
