Description
The Rare Earth Single Coil is Fishman’s refinement of a design that already set the bar for soundhole pickups. They took the original and dialed back any harshness up top, so what you get now is a single coil tone that’s still bright and articulate but never brittle. Credit the neodymium magnet structure paired with active electronics — together they pull a surprisingly natural acoustic character out of the string, with balance across all six strings that a lot of magnetic pickups struggle to match.
Installation is genuinely plug-and-play. No routing, no drilling, no permanent changes to your guitar. The pickup clips into the soundhole with a redesigned mount and a body shape built for comfort against the wood, and the output jack is pre-wired — mount it at the endpin if that’s your preference. Power comes from miniature batteries tucked underneath the pickup itself (included), and the preamp’s low-current design stretches battery life out to roughly 300 hours of playing time before you need a swap.
Rounding out the package is Fishman’s FT-2 clip-on tuner, a lightweight chromatic tuner that reads pitch through its built-in mic and displays it on a bright backlit LCD with a sharp/flat meter — the readout turns green the instant you land in tune. The adjustable, swiveling clip holds firm on headstocks of nearly any shape and keeps working even when the room around you isn’t quiet. It runs on a single coin cell.
