Description
Some pairings just work, and the JB/59 combo is the one Seymour Duncan built its reputation on. This set drops the aggressive SH-4 JB into the bridge and the vintage-flavored SH-1N 59 Model into the neck, giving you a humbucker duo that swings from smoky jazz chords to screaming lead tones without changing pickups.
SH-4 JB (Bridge) — Designed in the early ’70s and still Duncan’s best-seller, the JB earns its reputation as the definitive hot-rodded humbucker. Its alnico 5 bar magnet and hot coil winding push out an aggressive upper-midrange bite, a tight low end that stays articulate under gain, and highs with real harmonic sparkle. It’s equally at home cutting through a blues shuffle or driving a wall of hard rock and metal distortion.
SH-1N 59 Model (Neck) — Built to chase that classic late-50s PAF sound, the 59 neck pickup delivers warm, airy chords and fat, singing leads. Duncan updates the vintage recipe with an alnico 5 magnet and vacuum wax potting so it holds up to modern strings and louder amps, while retaining old-school character through details like 42AWG plain enamel wire, a long-legged nickel silver baseplate, braided push-back lead wire, and no logo cover. Both pickups are hand-built in Santa Barbara, CA, and the 59 is wound on Seymour’s vintage Leesona winder — the same type used at the original Gibson Kalamazoo factory.
