Description
Iron Maiden’s twin-guitar attack owes a lot to this exact pickup layout, and now you can steal it wholesale. Seymour Duncan built this Strat pickguard around Dave Murray’s own stage setup: a JB Jr. parked in the middle, with a Hot Rails humbucker holding down both bridge and neck. No routing, no soldering headaches — just drop it in and you’ve got his rhythmic chug and those slippery, singing lead runs on tap.
The Hot Rails in the bridge is where the crunch lives — thick, aggressive, with sharp harmonic edges that cut through a wall of gain. Slide over to the neck Hot Rails for that warm, vocal lead tone Murray’s known for, full of sustain without getting muddy. Sandwiched between them, the JB Jr. steps up in positions 2, 3, and 4, adding punch and single-coil-style clarity that keeps the in-between settings from sounding flat.
Every pickguard is hand-assembled in Santa Barbara, CA on an 11-screw USA pickguard pattern, so fitment on standard American Strats is straightforward. The pickups themselves use compact ceramic magnets and 4-conductor splittable lead wire, giving you extra wiring flexibility down the road, and they’re vacuum wax potted so you won’t fight microphonic squeal at high gain. All three pickups are humbucking, so 60-cycle hum is a non-issue no matter how hot you run your amp.
