Description
Klein didn’t just aim for a PAF-style sound—they rebuilt the pickup from the ground up using period-correct materials. This 1958 humbucker set pairs vintage-correct nickel-silver baseplates with double black butyrate bobbins, hand-wound in 42 gauge dark purple plain enamel wire. At the heart of each coil sits a real 1959 laboratory-analyzed Alnico magnet, paired with Klein’s exclusively made 1959-alloy polepieces and keeper bars—no modern substitutes, no shortcuts.
The result is a lower-output early-PAF voice: a fat, clear low end with real punch, topped by a clean, articulate high end that never gets brittle. Players describe a real (if slight) compression through the mids and highs that gives the set the same dynamic feel and timbre as an original ’58—not just a copy of the numbers on a spec sheet.
