Description
If you’ve ever wished your 5-string J Bass had more weight down low without turning to mud, the Bartolini 59CBJD-L1 is built for exactly that job. It’s the bridge-position ‘long’ pickup from Bartolini’s Classic Bass (CB) series, designed as a direct-style replacement for standard Fender Jazz Bass configurations, and voiced for deep, authoritative lows and low mids that stay articulate rather than boomy.
Under the hood, it uses a dual in-line coil design, meaning two coils sit side by side rather than stacked, giving you true hum-cancelling performance without the tonal compromises some stacked designs introduce. Bartolini’s Classic Bass series is passive, but engineered with an extended frequency range that pulls in extra top-end air and definition, so the pickup doesn’t just sound thick, it sounds open too. Each unit is cast in epoxy, which locks everything down mechanically to kill unwanted microphonics and feedback, even at higher gain or stage volume.
One detail worth knowing before you order: original J Bass pickups aren’t symmetrical in length. The neck pickup measures 3-5/8″ while the bridge pickup runs slightly longer at 3-3/4″. Some basses buck this convention and use two long bridge-length pickups instead, in which case you’d need the specific ‘LN’ (long neck) version for the neck slot, not this bridge unit. A smaller number of instruments even run two short neck-length pickups. Before ordering, take a moment to measure what’s currently in your bass so the replacement drops in without modification.
