Description
If you’re chasing that classic P-Bass growl without sacrificing low-end authority, the Bartolini 8SU is worth a serious look. Built as a drop-in replacement for Fender Precision Bass pickups, it’s earned a loyal following among players and luthiers for a voicing that leans into vintage lows and low-mids rather than chasing modern brightness. Compared to the 8CBP, output is deliberately lower, keeping things warm and dynamic rather than hot and compressed.
Like all P-Bass split-coil designs, the two coil halves overlap by 3/4″ (19mm) — the layout responsible for that humbucking, thump-forward P-Bass signature. These are original-series Bartolini pickups, fully passive and epoxy-potted to kill unwanted feedback and microphonics before they start.
Rather than leaving you to sort out wiring on your own workbench, this pickup comes bundled with Bartolini’s HR2.2AP/918 pre-wired harness — a genuine time-saver if you’d rather be playing than soldering. It’s built around Bartolini’s own pre-amp electronics and premium-grade potentiometers for smooth, reliable control that holds up to years of gigging.
- HR-2.2AP/918 harness with 2-band EQ and pre-amp
- Volume control with Active/Passive push-pull switch (single hole)
- Treble/Bass stacked Tone control (single hole)
Together, the 8SU and HR2.2AP/918 give you vintage split-coil tone with the flexibility to switch between active punch and passive warmth on the fly.
