Description
If your P-Bass has been craving more depth and less noise, the 8SU is Bartolini’s answer for players chasing classic low-end warmth rather than a modern output spike. Built as a direct replacement for the Fender Precision Bass split-coil, this pickup leans into vintage voicing — thick lows and rich low-mids — with a lower output than the brighter 8CBP option, so it sits comfortably in a mix without shouting.
Like all of Bartolini’s original series basses, the 8SU is a passive design cast in epoxy, which kills unwanted microphonics and feedback before they become a problem on stage. The two coils that make up the P-Bass pair overlap by 3/4 (19mm), preserving that familiar split-coil hum-cancelling character and tonal balance players expect from the format.
This particular listing pairs the pickup with Bartolini’s HR2.2AP/918 pre-wired harness, so you skip the fiddly work of wiring a preamp and pots from scratch. The harness includes:
- A 2-band EQ paired with Bartolini’s own preamp electronics
- One control hole for Volume, complete with an Active/Passive push-pull switch
- One control hole for a stacked Treble/Bass tone control
Premium audio-grade potentiometers give the controls a smooth, consistent feel built to handle years of gigging, while the switchable active/passive mode means you’re never locked into one voicing — flip to passive for old-school simplicity, or engage active mode when you want the EQ shaping your low end on the fly.
Together, the pickup and harness form a ready-to-install upgrade path for anyone wanting authentic vintage P-Bass tone with the flexibility of modern active electronics.
