Description
If your Jazz Bass sounds thin or hums under stage lights, the Bartolini 9CBJS L/S set is a proven fix. Sized to match a standard J-Bass layout, it pairs a long bridge pickup with a short neck pickup—exactly matching the original Fender dimensions of 3-3/4″ and 3-5/8″ respectively, so it drops into a stock cavity without any routing.
Each pickup uses Bartolini’s dual in-line coil design to cancel hum while keeping the tone open rather than squashed. That’s the real trick here: you get quiet, humbucking performance without the usual tradeoff of a dull, boxy midrange. Instead, this Classic Bass series set leans into extended frequency response—more air and top-end clarity than a typical vintage-style single coil, while holding onto the low end and low-mids that give a J Bass its backbone.
Bartolini casts these pickups in epoxy, which locks the coils in place to kill microphonic squeal and feedback, especially useful if you’re running higher gain or playing loud rooms.
One important fit note straight from Bartolini: not every modern Jazz Bass uses the classic long/short pairing. Some builds run two long bridge-length pickups, and in that case you’d need an LN (long neck) version made for that position—never a standard bridge pickup swapped into the neck slot. A smaller number of instruments use two short neck-length pickups instead. Before ordering, measure your existing pickups to confirm they match this long bridge/short neck configuration.
