Rewiring a bass control cavity from scratch is one of those jobs that eats an afternoon and half your patience. The Bartolini HR4.5/918 sidesteps all of it by arriving fully assembled with Bartolini’s own 2-band preamp circuit and audio-grade potentiometers already wired together, so you’re mounting and connecting rather than measuring, soldering, and troubleshooting cold joints at midnight.
The layout gives you four control positions total: a Volume/Blend pair and a Treble/Bass pair, letting you balance pickup output and shape your EQ curve independently. Because it’s an active circuit, you get headroom and tonal flexibility you simply don’t get from passive wiring — push more low end, carve out mids, or dial in a scooped modern voice without losing signal strength.
Runs on 9V or 18V power (hence the 918 in the name), and Bartolini includes a second battery clip in the box so you’re set up for the 18V option right out of the gate, along with wiring instructions to guide the install.
