If you’ve been chasing that thick, articulate low-end that made Bartolini’s original HI-A design a favorite among session players and luthiers, the J44J-L/S B-Axis set is the modern continuation of that legacy. Built as a direct replacement for standard Jazz Bass (J Bass) pickups, this set pairs a ‘long’ pickup for the bridge with a ‘short’ pickup for the neck — matching the asymmetrical spacing found in original J-basses.
Under the hood, each pickup uses fully encapsulated Alnico V magnets with exposed pole pieces, giving you that rich harmonic content and incredible tonal versatility Bartolini is known for. The dual in-line coil configuration delivers genuine hum-cancelling performance without sacrificing the punch and clarity that defines the B-Axis series’ sonic signature.
Like all Bartolini passive pickups, these are cast in epoxy to eliminate microphonics and unwanted feedback, so you get a clean, focused signal whether you’re slapping, fingerstyle, or digging in with a pick.
Before you order, double check your existing pickup dimensions — the neck pickup measures 3-5/8″ while the bridge pickup measures 3-3/4″. Getting this right ensures a proper drop-in fit without any routing or modification.
