The PBF-55 is Bartolini’s answer for players who want vintage humbucker character without picking a lane between jazz smoothness and rock grit — this pickup is voiced to do both convincingly from the neck slot.
It comes out of the PBF line, a series born from a collaboration between Bill Bartolini and Ed Reynolds, a Chicago-area builder and repairman from the 70s and early 80s who later moved his focus to electric guitars in Austin, Texas. Their goal with PBF pickups was to distill the best qualities of classic humbucker tone into a modern, dependable unit — and the PBF-55 carries that vintage-tuned DNA.
Like the rest of the PBF series, the PBF-55 is fully epoxy-cast, which kills unwanted feedback and microphonics so you get a clean, controlled signal even at stage volume.

If you’re chasing that earlier, more vintage-leaning humbucker voice with tighter, more defined lows, Bartolini also offers the PBF-49 (neck) and PBF-51 (bridge) as a matched Vintage Pair, wound closer to 7.5K-ohm and just over 8K-ohm respectively. But if you want a pickup that’s equally comfortable in a ’59 Les Paul, a semi-hollow, or something heavier, the PBF-55’s traditional gold-plated look and balanced voice make it a solid, versatile choice for the neck position.
