Description
The PBF-57 is the bridge half of Bartolini’s PBF line, a humbucker family designed with jazz players’ warmth and clarity in mind. Bill Bartolini teamed up with Ed Reynolds – a builder and repairman who cut his teeth in Chicago during the ’70s and early ’80s before moving his craft to Austin, Texas – to distill what makes vintage humbuckers work so well, then rebuild that formula from the ground up.
- Voiced specifically for jazz tone in the bridge position
- Epoxy-cast construction eliminates unwanted feedback and microphonics
- Gold plated cover for a clean, classic look
- Part of the broader PBF series, which also offers a Vintage Pair (PBF-49 neck / PBF-51 bridge) tuned around 7.5K-ohm and just over 8K-ohm respectively for tighter lows and sweeter highs
Rather than chasing a single narrow tone, the PBF-57 pulls from the best qualities of classic humbucker voicing and adapts them for players who want articulate, musical bridge tone without the harshness some bridge humbuckers introduce. It’ll sit comfortably in anything from a ’59-style Les Paul to a semi-hollow jazz box, or even a heavier rock setup where you want humbucker output with more nuance.
The gold cover keeps things understated and traditional. If you’d rather go bare, Bartolini also offers the PBF series in chrome, nickel, or uncovered ABS options in black or white for players who want the pickup’s raw tone unobstructed.
