Description
Bill Bartolini didn’t design the PBF line alone — he teamed up with Ed Reynolds, a Chicago-trained builder and repairman turned Austin-based electric guitar specialist, to nail down what makes vintage humbucker tone actually work. The result is a series of pickup pairs, each tuned toward a specific style of playing, and this Rock ‘n’ Roll set is built for exactly what the name promises.
The PBF-55 sits in the neck position, delivering the kind of clear, smooth sweetness that keeps lead lines and chords from turning muddy. Down at the bridge, the PBF-77D brings the muscle — plenty of power, but with a level of smoothness and note definition that keeps it from getting harsh or brittle under gain.
Every pickup in the PBF series is potted in epoxy, which keeps microphonic squeal and unwanted feedback out of the equation so you can push volume and drive without fighting the pickups themselves. This particular set comes with black covers, giving it a clean, understated look that works whether you’re dropping it into a vintage-style ’59 Paul, a semi-hollow, or something built for heavier territory.
