Description
DiMarzio built the PAF 36th Anniversary Neck (DP103BK) by studying what actually made old PAFs sound the way they did u2014 not just cloning the wind count, but reverse-engineering Larry DiMarzio’s own ’59 Les Paul using their own patented process. The result is a humbucker with a deliberately weaker magnetic field, letting strings ring out longer while keeping the attack focused and articulate. Custom-coated 42-gauge wire is layered by computer-controlled winders for consistent frequency response, then wax-potted to kill squeal and microphonics. The nickel-silver cover is plated to stay magnetically transparent, so the tone comes through smooth without turning muddy u2014 equally happy in the neck or bridge position.
On the other end sits the Norton (DP160FBK), an F-spaced bridge humbucker that splits the difference between FRED’s snarling harmonics and the Tone Zone’s midrange punch. Built on the same dual-resonance design as those two, it runs hotter and bigger than any vintage-style pickup without tipping into full distortion-humbucker territory u2014 arguably DiMarzio’s most flexible bridge unit, and a natural match for neck pickups like the Air Classic, PAF Pro, or Air Norton.
Both pickups arrive in black, wired with 4-conductor leads for coil-splitting options, and the set ships with a set of Ernie Ball EB2222 Hybrid Slinky strings so you’re ready to string up and play the moment the wiring’s done.
