DiMarzio built the Air Norton to be the Airbucker take on the Norton, expecting a snarly bridge pickup for high-gain rigs. What they got instead was one of their most convincing neck humbuckers: deep, warm, and hot without ever turning to mush. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts down on string pull, so notes bloom with more sustain and your pick attack stays expressive rather than compressed. There’s even a set of harmonic overtones in there that’s rare territory for a neck humbucker. Drop it in front of an Air Zone, The Tone Zone, or Steve’s Special and you get a genuine power-and-tone balance; pair it with an Air Classic Bridge model instead and you’re in medium-output blues-rock country. It plays especially well with 500K pots if you want extra treble bite and harmonic sparkle.
Holding down the bridge is the Norton, voiced in F-spaced form for 6-string routing. Tonally it sits between FRED and The Tone Zone, borrowing FRED’s snarling harmonic edge and The Tone Zone’s mid-range muscle. Built on the same dual-resonance design as those two pickups, it runs hotter and bigger than a vintage-output humbucker without tipping into distortion-pickup territory, which is part of why DiMarzio considers it one of their most versatile bridge options. It works comfortably with 250K controls, or a 500K volume/250K tone combo for a slightly fatter high end, and pairs naturally with Air Classic, PAF 36th Anniversary, PAF Pro, or its own neck-position sibling.
Both pickups arrive in black, wired 4-conductor for full coil-splitting flexibility, built on Alnico 5 magnets, and suited to solid body and semi-hollow guitars. This set ships with a free set of D’Addario EXL120 Super Light strings.
