Description
DiMarzio built the Air Norton as the “Airbucker” take on the Norton, expecting it to shine as a high-gain bridge pickup — instead it turned out to be one of their most distinctive neck humbuckers. Warm and deep without turning to mud, hot without breaking up, and surprisingly rich in harmonics for a neck pickup, it owes its improved sustain and dynamic pick response to DiMarzio’s patented Air Norton magnetic structure, which cuts down on string pull.
Paired here in the bridge is the Norton (F-Spaced), a pickup that sits tonally between FRED and The Tone Zone — picking up some of FRED’s nasty harmonic bite while keeping more of The Tone Zone’s midrange muscle and power. It’s louder and bigger-sounding than any vintage-style humbucker but stops short of distortion-class output, which is exactly why DiMarzio calls it one of their most versatile bridge options.
