This is a proven neck/bridge pairing built around two of DiMarzio’s most versatile humbuckers, and it ships with a free set of D’Addario EXL116 Medium Top/Heavy Bottom strings to get you playing right out of the box.
The DP193BK Air Norton was designed as an Airbucker take on the Norton, and while DiMarzio expected it to shine as a high-gain bridge pickup, it turned out to be an exceptional neck pickup instead. Expect a deep, warm voice that never turns muddy, plenty of output without pushing into distortion territory, and unusual harmonic content for a neck humbucker. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts down on string pull, which translates into longer sustain and much more nuanced control over pick attack and dynamics. It’s a strong match for solid-body and semi-hollow guitars, and pairs especially well with an Air Classic in the bridge for a medium-output blues-rock character. Try 500K pots here to bring out extra treble and harmonic snap.
The DP160FBK Norton Bridge is F-spaced for accurate pole alignment on guitars with wider string spacing. Tonally it sits between FRED and The Tone Zone — you get some of FRED’s snarling harmonic edge combined with The Tone Zone’s midrange muscle and power, thanks to the same patented dual-resonance design shared by both. The result is hotter and bigger than any vintage-style pickup, but stops short of full distortion-class output, making it arguably DiMarzio’s most adaptable bridge humbucker. It plays nicely with a range of neck partners including the Air Classic, PAF 36th Anniversary, and PAF Pro.
