The Air Norton was designed as the Airbucker take on the classic Norton, and it turned out to be one of DiMarzio’s most versatile neck pickups. Expect deep, warm tone that never turns to mud, plenty of output without sounding compressed, and harmonic content that’s rare for a neck humbucker. Its patented Air Norton magnetic structure cuts string pull, so sustain improves and your pick attack stays expressive and controllable. It’s an Alnico 5 pickup, 4-conductor wired, putting out 270mV at 12.58 Kohm DC resistance — pair it well with 500K pots for extra treble sparkle.
In the bridge, the Tone Zone handles the job of a hot pickup without the shrill, buzzing-insect edge some high-output humbuckers get. It’s got serious dynamic range: dig in and it roars, back off and it cleans up nicely. Bass and low-mid response are big and reinforcing, single notes carry real depth, and chords sound massive thanks to dual-resonance coils pulling out more overtones than you’d expect from something this fat. Also Alnico 5 and 4-conductor, it runs 375mV at 17.31 Kohm DC resistance, and splits to a solid single-coil tone if your wiring allows it.
